After the Franco-Prussian War (1870), a stately building was constructed at Semmelstrasse 28-30.
According to local custom, new buildings often included an alcove containing a small statue of St. Mary; however, instead of Mary this building had a statue of her husband the carpenter named Joseph.
The building included a restaurant on the ground floor and a beer garden in the shaded courtyard to the rear, both of which took on the name of St. Josef.
Regrettably, the building and its statue were destroyed in 1945. After reconstruction, the hotel was built where the Biergarten formerly stood.
